Traffic is the lifeblood of any internet business. With a <br />
constant stream of targeted traffic you will generate leads <br />
and make money. If, however, your traffic dries up then you <br />
will struggle to make money online. Traffic is critical to <br />
everything and this article provides an overview of some <br />
free methods available to you.<br />

An Initial Thought...<br />

Free traffic is not strictly free. You generally have to put <br />
some time and effort into it to reap the rewards from it. We <br />
won't cover every free source of traffic here but some of the <br />
main ones follow now.<br />
<br />
SEO<br />
<br />
Search engine optimisation (SEO) is used to make webpages <br />
appear good to the search engines such as Google, Yahoo and <br />
Bing. A webpage that has good SEO will appear highly on the <br />
search engine rankings thus allowing people who search to <br />
find the content easily. This gives you traffic. There are <br />
two parts to SEO, namely on-page SEO and off-page SEO. <br />
On-page SEO involves making sure you have a good mix of <br />
appropriate keywords on your page, including but not exclusive <br />
to the title, description, meta tags, photos, videos. These <br />
keywords can found using the Google Keyword Tool. Off-Line <br />
SEO is mostly about having backlinks to your site. These are <br />
links from other websites to your website. To rank for specific <br />
keywords you must include the keywords in the anchor text of <br />
the link.<br />

Social Media<br />
<br />
This includes Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. Facebook and <br />
Twitter are mainly about building communities of likeminded <br />
people. On Facebook you have friends, groups and pages and <br />
on Twitter you can follow people and be followed. It is not <br />
necessarily easy to directly sell through these media but <br />
the social nature of the community is great for building <br />
trust and lists of people due to the traffic available. <br />
YouTube is the foremost runner in videos and is an excellent <br />
source of traffic. If you make a video which is popular you <br />
can very quickly drive traffic to a website or optin list. <br />
We note that making a video is easier than many people think <br />
and definitely achievable with a home computer setup.<br />
<br />
Article Marketing<br />
<br />
This involves writing keyword rich articles about niche <br />
subjects and submitting it to websites such as EzineArticles <br />
which rank well on the search engines. Your traffic comes <br />
from the search engines and you direct the traffic to a <br />
website of your choice using a resource box at the bottom <br />
of the article. This contains the link of the site that you <br />
wish to drive your traffic too.<br />
<br />
Classifieds<br />
<br />
You can post classified ads on sites such as Craigslist. <br />
These will contain a link back to your website and hence <br />
drive you traffic to your webpage.<br />
<br />
Blogging<br />
<br />
You can generate traffic by creating a blog and providing <br />
content to your readers. Your blog will become a central <br />
point that your readers will come back to and a point where <br />
new readers can find your content. Posts within the blog can <br />
be optimised via SEO so that individual posts appear on the <br />
search engines.<br />
<br />
Posting Comments<br />
<br />
Many blogs and forums allow you to join and post comments on <br />
the pages. You can also setup your own profile which will be <br />
posted when your comment is accepted on the page. If you make <br />
sure your profile has a link to your website you can create <br />
traffic. Make sure to post on popular blogs and forums that <br />
are appropriate to your niche to increase the chances of <br />
targeted traffic.<br />
