e-Book fix for Windows XP SP2 Users
Have you started having problems accessing your eBooks after installing the SP2 Patch for Microsoft® Windows XP®? Do you receive an error similar to the following one after trying to access your eBooks... Then follow these directions step by step. This will restore all your .exe ebooks 1. Make a restore point for your Windows XP SP2 Operating system.
- a. Click on START in the lower Left of your Desktop then RUN
- b. Type in RESTORE in the Run dialogue box
- c. Click on START then RUN rstrui.exe
- d. Type in RESTORE in the run box
- e. Double click on the file rstrui.exe
- f. In the System restore check in the CREATE A RESTORE POINT Dialogue Box
- g. Name the restore point xpsp2 or anything you can remember
- h. Click close after the restore point is created
- i. click close
If you have any problem with the following step this step will allow you to restore your computer to the same as it was before you make the following change.
You are now ready to create a registry key to fix your e-books
2) Click on your start menu (bottom left of your screen) and click on RUNA small window will appear that should look similar to this: Type in "regedit" in the field just like below
Click the OK button.
3) A new window will appear that says Registry Editor on the top of it:
Next, click on the folder that says HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
4) Your folders may look a somewhat different than mine. Now, you should click on the folder that says SOFTWARE:
5) Scroll Down until you find a folder named Microsoft, and click on it. You should see something like the image below.
6) Click on the Internet Explorer folder now: Your Registry Editor should look similar to the image Below
You want to go now to the folder that says Security.
7) Click the Security folder. This will be the area that you will insert your code into. Your Registry Editor window should resemble this image:
8) We will ad a new registry key. Right Click anywhere in the Right Hand Pane. Choose NEW and KEY. like in the photo below. This will add your new key.
9) The New Key will be named NEW KEY #1 by default. You need to RIGHT CLICK you new key and choose RENAME like in the photo below.
10) Rename the new key you just created to Adv AddrBar Spoof Detection, like the picture below.
11) RIGHT CLICK on the New Key Adv AddrBar Spoof Detection
Then highlight the word NEW then DWORD VALUE like in the picture below:
12) A new registry value should appear with the name New Value #1.
13) RIGHT CLICK on New Value #1 and rename this value to Enable. Your screen should look like the one below. You don't need to modify this setting the value should already read 0X00000000 (0) as below:
After the steps above are completed, you can Blose the Registry Editor by clicking on the X in the corner of the registry editor
You did it? after you have done this, go to an e-book that you could not read before, and click on it to open. Try to navigate through the pages,
All the pages should open now like they did before you installed the new SP2 Windows Upgrade.
